FAIRMONT HISTORY

Christmas Scenes in Fairmont

Everyone has their favorite Fairmont Christmas scene. My all time favorite is the Hugh Collins home on Lake View Road. For as long as I can remember, the home and yard helped everyone who saw it celebrate a very Merry Christmas. In the daytime it was pretty

but at night, it was absolutely gorgeous. These photos are from Christmas, 1961.

There was usually a manger scene at one of the churches. This one was at First Presbyterian Church in 1965.

The downtown was decorated with colorful lights and, as the years passed, more elaborate decorations on the light poles.

There was always a Christmas parade announcing the arrival of Santa Claus, as shown here in 1968.

Wherever Santa was, kids would magically appear to let him know just what they wanted for Christmas. Santa is shown here in Troy and Mildred Miller's Sears Catalog Store on Main Street in 1976.

These were the kind of Fairmont Christmases that I fondly remember.
